VARIATIONS OF EMERGENCE, MALTA SOCITY OF ARTS 2025
On Saturday 12 of December Malta Society of Arta hosted the exhibition of Nina Gerada and Martina Georgina on Variations of emergence. The two presenters guided the participants in two different scenes. The first scene conducted the curious to the cave downstairs where there was an exposition of remnants from different walking experiences along the cost of the sunny island of Malta. While observing at the objects lying on the long wood table, the presenter of the exposition Nina started recalling her experience abroad as well as in Malta. She reflected on the importance attributed to walking and how through such activity, particularly in the Maltese coasts, she explored the archaeology which allowed her to recollect objects, not influenced by a neoliberal imprint nor a colonial tide. The exposed ones were indeed objects completely neutral to any mean -ends relation, they were just objects d standing proudly on the table, which once collected could be representing a legendary diary on which one day, in the future, to rely if one looks for an authentic maltese element , untouched by any foreign conquer.
The second scene lead the participants in the Maltese society arts, one flow upstairs, in the room of the Counts, where Martina Georgina, showed a performance filled of reading a personal diary, and performing with her body related to her volunteering experience in RMJ Horse Rescue. Her experiences with the horses f RMJ horse Rescue was really touching for her , as while taking care of the horses in the riding stairs, she could feel a profound bond emerging in the relationship with another horse. That horse really meant 'the universe opening for her'. After the reading of the poem, she showed on the small televisions , a documentary of the traditional practice of horse parade in some rural Maltese countryside, which highlighted the exploitation of these animals for the sake of winning money. After the documentary, she showed another docu piece where she used her own body to move according to the natural movement of the horse along with his emotions. After the documentary, the artist removed her trouser and wore a long tail on the back and some high shoes white taped as natural hooves , and started performing the horse emotions..
The two exhibitions of a different character showed the sense of variations of emergence. Through the use of non human entities in their research , the artists showed the kind of deep empathy and connection that can emerge among human entities with their surrounding. Variations of emergence seems a posthuman interpretation of reality.
